The World Cafe Community

Hosting Conversations about Questions that Matter

There are people gathering here in the World Cafe community from literally all over the world, and it is so exciting!!! I really want to meet everyone, and I know I'm not alone. Would you please tell us a little about yourself here, just as an introduction, so we can start to learn about each other? Where do you live? How did you learn about the World Cafe? What are your interests and passions?

NOTE: The convention on this part of the site is that the responses are in chronological order, so you have to click forward to the last page to see the latest introduction.

Pamela, based on the web site I would say that the cafe process would be a great process to add to the 2-3 day retreat discribed in the material. A cafe as a dialogic process is a couple of hours and provides a powerful way to engage people around a question that matters. As Juanita suggested, pick up the book and you will have a wonderful introduction to this world changing work.

Rene what a pleasure to meet you. If there is any way that I can be of service to you, just let me know.

John
Hello René,
welcome.
I live in Antwerp...if you want to talk about World Café...let me know. We can call or meet...

Greetings All! I learned about the World Cafe through teleconference calls with David Cooperrider and Harrison Owen. I just joined this online community today and looking forward to finding a mentor to help me invite a first community circle together. I am trained in Nonviolent Communication and look forward to finding synergy with that practice and Appreciative Inquiry and Community Circles and ???? I am excited to join this international group and look forward to connections. I currently live in the northern carlifornia redwood rainforest on a working ranch owned by an intentional community. I am most passionate about my 18 month old grandson and the Nonviolent Communication Phone Mentoring I offer. I have just begun weekly interactive teleconference calls I call "Public NVC", as they are open to all who would like to connect using the foundational connecting tools of Nonviolent Communication. You can call 1-530-216-4294 Pin for 6am (PT) is 337377 and the Pin for 6pm (PT) is 356404
I'm curious if these calls could be used to invite a community circle online? Anyone have input about that?
If anyone would like to offer me any tips about what has worked for you in initiating a first circle in a community, that would be helpful for me...Thank You!
Your work sounds very interesting. If you would like to explore how to create a World Cafe conversation. I would be glad to be a resource. There have been quite a few conversation on this forum about this very topic for someone new to TWC. Dig around a bit and explore some of the posts and when you are getting closer, just drop me a line and I will be glad to help. Welcome to this warm and caring community of dialogue practitioners.

Thank you, John. I sent an email for support to the address provided just before receiving your response. I intend to contact my regional stewards (2 in Calif.). It is my intention to bring the idea of hosting a World Cafe to my local WELL (Willits Economic Localization) group's annual meeting today. I've been co-learning about World Cafe Community and Appreciative Inquiry, and hoping to possibly combine them somehow. (Ok, the two are a little 'mixed' in my brain right now!) I thank you for your warm welcome to this caring community of dialogue practitioners!
Hi Mair,

I'm so glad you got turned on to the World Cafe through the series of MaestroConference calls we hosted last month ... I helped design the model for them and hosted the first one with Christine - the one with Juanita (Brown) and Nicole (Boyer). I'd be happy to connect with you and share my experience about using MaestroConference (and a variety of other media) to host meaningful conversations virtually.

Warmest Wishes,

Amy
Mair and I just had a great call...

Everyone - Mair is a wonderfully talented host who is experienced in a variety of methods, and I left the call feeling very excited about the "community of communities" and the ways we can collaborate and continue to evolve our individual practices for the good of the whole.

Warmly,

Amy
Hi to everybody reading my introduction,

I have joined the World Cafe due to a very special person: Michael Jones, a brilliant pianist and inspiring writer and talker. He was the one that switched on a light in me, switched on lights arounds me and illuminated a huge field of questions. Questions that matter, questions with substance.
I'll be graduating in "Biotechnolgy" after I will have returned to Austria in a few days. I've spent nine months in the beautiful San Francisco area...everybody who hasn't been there yet, I suggest you go there immediately ;)

My stay in the USA activated new thoughts. It is hard to explain in words - I kow now, I feel better. I know now, the way I feel is true. I want to change many things in this world and create relationships that sustain through decades. Communication is so important!
If anybody can give me some advices how to start over in Austria with a World Cafe, please let me know. I have somehow an idea how to do it. However, I'm always open to any many comments!

See you person soon hopefully!

Stefan
Stefan, if you are still in San Francisco and would like to give me a call before leaving for beautiful Austria, I am at 415 479 5225 and 864 1978. It would have been nice to have had you at our Breakfast Conversation this morning at the Red Vic

Stefan,

Your note of introduction is so wonderful to hear ... and you couldn't have come recommended by a better person - Michael is one of the jewels of the world for sure.

In answer to your question - I don't know anyone with the World Cafe who is based in Austria now, but we just hosted the European Salon in Reichenau an der Rax, which is about an hour and a half outside of Vienna (what a beautiful country you have!) and you might want to connect with some of the people who were there. We have a group on this community that you would be very welcome to join.

Warm Wishes,

Amy
Oh I just recognized that Mair Alight asked a similar question, how to open a first circle in your own country. I'll be looking around on this webpage and when I'm stuck, can I forward somebody my questions? Thank you so much...I'm a great admirer of the World Cafe idea!
