The World Cafe Community

Hosting Conversations about Questions that Matter

There are people gathering here in the World Cafe community from literally all over the world, and it is so exciting!!! I really want to meet everyone, and I know I'm not alone. Would you please tell us a little about yourself here, just as an introduction, so we can start to learn about each other? Where do you live? How did you learn about the World Cafe? What are your interests and passions?

NOTE: The convention on this part of the site is that the responses are in chronological order, so you have to click forward to the last page to see the latest introduction.

This is SO COOL, Victor! Please share your stories and keep us informed about what you are doing ...
I want to connect you with Sasha Soreff, a friend of mine, who lives in NYC-she has a dance company called the Sasha Soreff Dance Theater PO Box 625, NY, NY 10012. sashasoreffdance.com
Just in case you'd like to connect?
She sent me some info about the latest piece she is doing. I'm including it here in case it might "ring some bells" for you. Here are her opening words:
Over the many months during which I was creating "The Other Shoe," I found that shoelaces are both a metaphor and a medium for expressing the central ideas of that piece, particularly hopes and fears. Sasha Soreff Dance Theater has continued to integrate shoelaces, bearing people's handwritten hopes and fears, into movement theater, and this process has taken on a life of its own. We are following the shoelaces wherever they lead. . .
This piece is part of The Field's Fall Resident Showcase, which will also feature:
Ephrat 'Bounce' Asherie, Benjamin Boatright, Christine Coleman -Sticky Mango Movement, Lauren Hale Dance, State of Play Productions, and TanzKunst Project

Directions: Dixon Place, 161A Chrystie Street, between Rivington & Delancey
F/V to 2nd Avenue, J/M/Z to Bowery, B/D to Grand Street
Thank you Mair - I will check-out Sasha's dance company - it sounds intriguing and conceptually it does resonate with me. I appreciate the connection.
Greetings all -

I am a multimedia artist who's trying to adjust to the drastic changes in the world. I live in rural New York State, about 2 hours from New York City (where I still perform music and have strong cultural, political and creative contacts). Living away from NYC for the past 2 years has forced me to think very differently about income creation and community, which ultimately is a good thing! But has it's growing pains.

We have a very strenuous fight in my neck of the woods, concerning hydrofracking - the unsafe drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale formation - which threatens the safety of our water supply, environment and ultimately our very lives. You can find more on my page.

As this issue will be affecting untold numbers of Americans (and already has, in the western regions) I would like to create an educational forum here so that people are aware of this catastrophe BEFORE it hits their neck of the woods.

I am a website designer, writer, photographer, musician, mother, world traveler, and lover of nature, and looking for work!
Welcome Margaret!
How did you learn about the World Cafe?

Hello. My name is Michael Shell. I live in Maine and work as a Life Coach, Yoga teacher, HHC and I teach nonviolent communication. The fundamental premise underlying all I do is the belief that we are all connected and that we all have the capacity within ourselves, namely wisdom, to lead us to wholeness and happiness. My job is to assist people in trusting that inner voice.

In addition, I am the Founder of The Oneness Project: a grassroots effort seeking to actively co-create a vision of humanity based on an evolved consciousness that values and embraces the interconnectedness of all life. We intend to be engaged agents of conscious evolution. In this effort, we are organizing a series of events related to Oneness culminating in a Oneness Conference slated for the Fall of 2011. If you would like to participate as a speaker, sponsor, volunteer, participant or in any other capacity please contact me at wellnesscoach@gmail.com!

Have a blessed day.

Hi Michael,

Hello!

I am a soon to be 57 year old Londoner - Chelsea supporter who foolishly has spent most of his life trying to sort out the welfare state!

Just read William Morris News from Nowhere and want to implement it next week, well it did only take a week to make the universe according to some people!

http://www.marxists.org/archive/morris/works/1890/nowhere/nowhere.htm

I am a Green Party member and kitten eater - I would be interested to know if anyone knows what I am referring to! (need smiley here!!!)

My first reaction here is some people seem to be using jargon, there are several initials I haven't got a clue about!

I liked the post from New Zealand that references finding the future - do people know Ursula Le Guin's novel Always Coming Home?

My blog may or may not give a few more clues about me, and there are two types of people on the planet - those who know where the word Durdle is from and those who do not!
Hi Clive! :-)

I'm afraid I don't know what a kitten eater is. :-) But I'm curious and would love to know, as well as where the word Durdle comes from (Ireland?).

I'm also curious about the "initials" you mentioned - please ask if there's anything you want to know or are wondering about. I'm happy to help, and I know others will be too.

May I ask how you heard about the World Cafe and came to join this community?

Warm Wishes,

Amy

And kitten eating is part of the initiation rite of joining the Evil Atheist Conspiracy along with riding on the black helicopters!

Later on you get to enjoy pirates and worship the fsm!
You sir, are quite goofy! :-) And I love the image - what part of the rock formation is the "durdle" - the opening? the whole thing?
