It's a real delight when I can respond to a somewhat negative topic by engaging people in a World Cafe that is spun from positive threads. In January of 2009, The Joint Commission for Hospital Accreditation (TJC) established a standard (ie, a requirement for accreditation of a healthcare institution) that all staff must be prepared to confront disruptive behavior of physicians and that the hospital must have a code of conduct that identifies appropriate and inappropriate behaviors.
As chair of the Service Excellence Steering Committee at St. Francis Hospital (where I am OD Director), I convened 40+ managers and staff in a World Cafe to find our shared beliefs and how they could be applied to draft a code of conduct.
The design of the event and the mapped results are attached.
Hi Loretta,
It would be great for you to be in touch with Lauri Prest of Providence Health Care in Canada. I know she'd be interested in what you are doing! her e-mail is: "Prest, Lauri"
She has been doing Cafes and other conversational work there for several years--and I know would be a great thinking partner with you.
This is very significant work on your part along with others. I would like to speak with you regarding a brief case study to help another industry, who has asked some advice on internal communications "best practices".
While I am not a fan of the term best practices (because it often provides an ability to replicate and not innovate). I believe, your work is essential for rebuilding trust. And, I see rebuilding trust as an actual business with integrity and urgency.
