Hosting Conversations about Questions that Matter

Since I am an intercultural trainer, I realize that our ways how and what we communicate (share) are really diffrent. And I'd like to invite you to think about singing, meditating, keep silent together, dancing, drumming as means to create a community.
For me those aspects of getting aligned, but not through words have been forgotten in our western societies. Robert Gass has written a very inspireing book about chanting and singing and its value to community building. Communication happens only 7% through words but still we focus so much on them (Schulz v. Thun). Why?
Love to hear your thoughts about this

I really agree with this, Ilona. Drumming, singing, dancing, - all these ways of being together and connecting on a deep level are very powerful ways of building community. To me, these ways of being speak to the "heart" of community, as meditation and chanting and being silent together speaks to the "spirit".

I think most of us also need words ... the "intellectual" structure of words gives context for the good feelings that emerge through the non-verbal communion, and really help to give form to the group energy and direct it with a clear purpose.

And then there is the "body-centered" wisdom of shared action that grounds the heart and spirit and mental aspects. When these four - head, heart, body and spirit - are all addressed in some way, there you will find the kind of community that people really want to be a part of and will tend to commit to wholeheartedly.
Thumbs up to these comments! Addressing the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of our human being will help the community process. At the same time allowing that some people are more heady, others more heartful and others again prefer bodily activities.

I guess, this means providing options and variety.

Cheers,

Hanno
Yes! Providing different "ways in" for people who are oriented in different ways is really important so that people "see" themselves reflected. In this case, since we are all creating the program together, I think it is a matter of our being welcoming and open to different ways of being ... so that they know they have a place in our salon and can show up.

I'm so glad you'll be there with us, Hanno!!! It will be wonderful to see you again.
Hi all, hi Amy,

it seems like the desert has been a very powerful experience for you!

Do I understand this right that head, heart, body and spirit are the four directions of the medicine wheel and are at the center of the circle work?

In my view this would address one aspect of human wholeness, and I perfectly agree that all these parts should be included in our Salon.

Not just for different people, but for the different sides in everyone.

Cheers, Ulrich
Hi Ulrich,

Yes, you're right that the experience I've just been through in the high desert of New Mexico has been very powerful indeed. I can't wait to share my photographs with you, fellow lover of Beauty, so you have a sense of what I have seen and where I have been.

To answer your question - there is certainly a Medicine Wheel - I think it is the Wheel of the Human (which they differentiate from mere "two-leggeds") where the cardinal points on the compass refer to intellect and emotions and spirit and body. But this is not the only Medicine Wheel - probably the primary one is the Wheel of Elements - Earth, Air, Fire, Water - and all the points on any wheel also correspond to the directions (and all the other points on all the other wheels that are in the same point on the wheel).

Every Medicine Wheel is focused on bringing wholeness to our understanding, and if each point is considered, will bring wholeness to any inquiry.

And yes, the medicine wheel is a Circle, and drawn from the same fundamental aspects of wholeness that the Circle as a form itself carries.

I love the way your mind works in thinking of these things, and I'm so glad you are open to including the wonderful new friends I have invited to join us.

Warmest Wishes,

Amy
Dear Ilona, yeah let's dance, meditate and sing together!!! Let's feel
what's behind the words of our interaction. I apreciate a lot your words Amy
- and thank you for your clearness - it's like a dance between our
intellectual structure and the other levels of awarness.

Do you have seen this video
(thank you Pierre!) ?
Hi Ilona, hi all,

I have added some visual comments on the topic of our Salon to the »media« section. If you search for »European Salon«, you'll see.

Cheers, Ulrich
