Hosting Conversations about Questions that Matter
Hi everyone!!!
My name is Martin Boerjan and I'm 23 years old. Currently I am a Master Student at the University of Tilburg. Having finished all my courses, my last challenge is to write a Master Thesis. As you might all suspect as I am writing here, my Master Thesis will be about the World Cafe.
My research is going to explore whether both the length and frequency (sequential World Cafe's) have an effect upon the effectiveness of the intervention. A lot of theories show us that in order to make sense and obtain usable results from an intervention like the World Cafe, these events need to take long enough. However, more and more consultants nowadays are shortening the time spent on these interventions. That is why I'm going to do research into this relationship.
To do so, as of next month I will develop a survey, which I was planning to post on the worldcafecommunity. This survey will measure both lengt + frequency of events and its effectiveness. After obtaining these results I will verify this data by having some interviews with actual companies that have employed World Cafes.
Considering this I think this is the right group for me to join. So if you have any questions, comments, ideas, please feel free to contact me!!
Best Regards,
Martin Boerjan

Martin,
I would be highly interested in the results of your thesis. I am currently working on my Master's thesis through Augsburg College and am conducting interviews with 14 high level leaders at a Fortune 100 company regarding conversational behaviors in the workplace. I have not completed my deep-dive analysis of the transcriptions yet, but I am learning very quickly that leaders feel they don't have the time to engage in long, exploratory, conversations as frequently as they think would be helpful for their teams. Understanding how length and methodology impacts effectivity would be of great interest to me.
Good luck with your studies and know that you've come to a great place to share your thesis work and passion! :)
