There will be 100 people in this 1st cafe mentioned above, and 10 tables.
Any specific advice, recommendations ?
Thanks Mary-Agnes. I appreciate the additional information. It sounds like you already have hosting experience (I was thrown by your checking the "participant" box on your profile) and that you have some real work cut out for you in this situation! :-)
Without it being an "issue" (I know what it is like to work with clients who have strong ideas about what they want whether or not they will work, believe me! :-), I hope you can clarify for him in a gentle way that while his choices are absolutely fine, they are not actually a World Cafe process.
It wouldn't be good for anyone to think that's what they are doing. Not because they are working with two questions - that's fine - but ten people at a table changes the dynamic to the point that it can no longer be called a World Cafe.
Are they rotating tables at all? Once for each question, or?
Thanks so much for being in touch, and I look forward to hearing more.
What a wonderful opportunity ... thanks for asking for feedback and support.
I do have some "advice", or suggestions, for you. Two, actually.
The first is that - given the context (for a client, 100 people) - you might consider working with someone who has World Cafe hosting experience for this first one, to help you really get the most from the process for your client.
The other is that you look again at the idea of having 10 people to a table. Is there a specific reason you are considering doing so? I ask because changing the format that radically will make a big difference to the participants' experience. I'm happy to talk more with you about the reason for having 4-5 people at a table, which is the World Cafe format, if you're curious.
In any case, it's great to have you here, and we look forward to hearing about what happens at your World Cafe.
Let me know if I can be of any help to you in your current questions, or in navigating this community space.
