The World Cafe Community

Hosting Conversations about Questions that Matter

A step into the darker reaches of beyond maybe.  Just joined as a result of a realisation that the research tool I have been looking for is already out there.

My PhD topic is seeking to be able to use mimetic theory ( a theory of desire and scapegoating) to develop a systems model of workplace bullying.  I had been struggling to see how I could pull this together and was reading Bojer et als 'Mapping Dialogue' and came across the World Cafe.

To be honest my interest was captured by the very use of the word cafe and I was determined that this will be the best course of action for me!  The more I read the more I realised that it could very well work with my research.

I guess the long journey now starts to check it out and understand it properly.

Wonderful, Damian!

You might find it valuable to check out the World Cafe research being done at Fielding Graduate University, including a doctoral dissertation by one of the founders, Juanita Brown.

We're presenting a World Cafe Hosting Fundamentals course at Fielding starting September 30th, but it sounds like you may need something more focused on research - there's a Fielding Research group here you might like to make contact with.

Here's a link to the World Cafe website as well, to give you a better idea of what it's about (have a look at the section on "Useful Information" in particular).

Keep us informed of what you are learning! Thanks.
