Quality Teacher : How I understand it.

A teacher is like a light which spreads its shine in the mind of students. I wonder how important is the job of the teacher. Yet, around the world there is a crises of quality teachers. What is a quality teacher? I believe the quality teacher is the one who has the capacity to inspire and create new minds. He should have passion, competence and Integrity.

What is passion then? Passion is that enthusiasm and fire within a teacher which constrantly drives to push and explore new frontiers of excellence. It is the profound love and curiosity for the subject, children and the whole educational setting. But can passion alone make a great teacher. Certainly not we need competence as well.

Teaching competence means th combination of Knowledge Skills an Attitude. The knowledge of the subject, the knowledge of the teacher and the knowledge of the curriculum. Skills: Class room managment skills, Instructional skills, assessment skills, communication skills, computer skills , social skills etc

What is attitude then? Attitude is the key.

Attitude is the combination of = (belief + Values = Inclination). If the teacher believes in self-excellence and learnin, then that will be reflected in values and he is likely to value reading and learning and the final inclination will be positive. Thus a shift in bleief can change lot of things. Remember Attitutde determines our altiitude.

Integrity means two things. Keeping yourself integrated (within yourself) under pressure ( Your emotional Quotient ) and remaining integrated and loyal to the team and institution.

The Combination of PASSION, COMPETENCE AND INTEGRITY certainly makes a quality teacher.

As far as I know the real strength of the system for the teacher is their autonomy and the student it is their learning through the liberal arts, which in turn allows for the breeding of creativity! It is a model, that with some modernising could become a global brand and an innovation platform for public education. What are thoughts, since you are the one training there?

thank you for getting back to me

best wishes

I'm training to become a Waldorf High School Teacher, and curious to see what you think about Waldorf education.

it is much less; If we analyse all teh great techers in the world (and past worlds) it is always their ability to connect, empower and challenge that makes them great. there are a million ways to do this and each learner requires a specific journey, yet it must be a collective journey. Have you read Freire and Dewey as a starting point??
