Hosting Conversations about Questions that Matter

Hi Chris, hi all,

thank you for taking the initiative to open up this important aspect of Café work for shared learning.

I'd like to initiate a conversation where we can share and discuss examples of harvesting, to inspire each other, and to learn from each other.

Let me start by contributing the documentation of a workshop on harvesting I hosted last year in Bilbao. I don't think this is a best practice example, but it might be something to initiate conversations about the topic.

Cheers, Ulrich

I forgot to mention the most important aspect of this example. It is the central question we dealt with in this workshop:

What is the result of a conversation?

I am curious what all of you understand by this. That is another conversation to start ...

I didn't read your article yet Ulrich, but some wisdom out of the Art of Hosting community...
A conversation not worthwhile capturing/harvesting is not worthwhile doing...
A conversation should always be designed with the harvest in mind, and where the harvest will lead to ... to the next round of conversations, even if somewhere else.

There is even a video on the net where Monica Nissén, one of our harvest masters gives a little teaching on Harvest. Here it is:

Ria - thank you for this perspective, and for the video link. I agree with you completely - and how do we change the mind set of harvesters, and facilitators about this intent - the importance of the meaning of the graphics before the event happens - not as everyone is leaving - what an easy thing could we do to accelerate this?

hello Ulrich,
Very informative and enriching of my learning here in the Harvesting group. As someone who is living with a learning disability I find this very helpful.I am also new to WorldCafe` lol lol
I am keen to learn more and perhaps we can host a group here in Halifax Nova Scotia at some point.Having something to say is not the point to someone who needs to hear a paticular point over and over again to get it !lol lol
I have been 15 years doing a BA in Education.Ive decided to remain out of the mainstream status quo for learners with disabilities. This has been a difficult but wiser for the longterm advantages.
Communication is an art form we can always improve upon.
Thanks again
K.C.S.
