Dear Amy,

you are my friend anyway and joining you here is just an additional connection that brings us together!

At the moment I am struggeling here in Germany to find a new home - living in an interim home - and the pull to California gets stronger and stronger.... I miss you and my friends there! Very much!

Will you be in Vienna for the International meeting?

Big big hug
Sabine

Thanks for the warm welcome, Amy. I have heard that Tempe has grown a great deal, so I am sure it is much different than 50 years ago. I moved here just a year ago for my teaching job.

I am looking forward to being part of the World Cafe.

Cheers.

Thanks Amy. I love this model. I used it for a community visioning process that work out wonderfully due to it. A colleague uses it at the beginning of each semester to construct the syllabus. Cheers!

Hi Amy,

Thank you for your comment. Oh, that's ok! I didn't check my e-mail yesterday, so I didn't notice the spam on my message board.

Yes, it's interesting that I found out about this site through Twitter. One of the people that I follow on Twitter tweeted about this site, so I decided to check it out. It's a lucky find! Twitter is great in spreading messages.

Yes, if someone needs any help with some of the technical aspects, I can try to help to the best of my ability. (I will be away for the next two weeks, so maybe sometime later this month or next month I am available).

Thanks for everything!
Suzanne

Amy: I'm doing some work with 2 private elementary schools [Oakland /Piedmont and Livermore] I thinking of organizing a WC for parents at both schools to introduce the schools strategic planning process. Have you done this before? Be in touch. [email protected]

That's a good idea... I, of course, read World Cafe, but this summer ran across a book called The Living Classroom, in which the author describes how he uses the Cafe model in a modified form with his college undergrad students. Including ways to grade their preparation and participation, and more importantly, ways to ease the young people into the form with an emphasis on deep listening and pausing between responses to really think/feel what has already been offered.

I plan to start with my students by responding to a literature piece next week. I introduced the form only this week.

Thank you... I am excited about knowing and understanding the power of this community. I have a question. Yesterday I had added a group (Chicagoland Cafe). But I could not find it once I pressed OK or submit or something. When I tried to recreate the group with the same name, I received a message saying that the name was already taken. Am I missing something? Is there a process I skipped? peace, tony

Hello and thank you for the welcome,
I met Chris and Sabine early this summer and there was a very nice connection which we had the pleasure to explore together during a lovely afternoon of conversation at the Geneva airport. We share many of the same perspectives, especially with respect to creating a common inclusive vision for the future.
www.AllSystemsgo.ch is my contribution, through this I try to open a window, and offer people the possibility to dare, to look at things from other perspectives and create new realities.
Warm wishes from a Canadian in Switzerland :-)

Thanks for the welcome Amy, its great to be here. I was inspired to come and take another look at the site after reading posts about it on the Genuine Contact Program listserve, where our community is currently asking clarifying questions about the kind of virtual platform to create going forward. I must say some of it goes way over my head, but in simple terms I can say that I am loving the way this site is working thus far!

Can you share documents easily here?

ps thank-you for all your hard work!

Yes Amy and thanks for all your encouragement though out the site!!

I'm learning all the ins and outs of this site - very cool!
StoryNet is?

Re the Facilitator Role - I believe that this role is vital to the outcome if there is a specific focus to the cafe.
I see two applications from our past experience
1. the 'micro-facilitator' helping table groups get their conversations going , encouraging visual notes and letting people shed some inhibitions, then moving on - find this is almost necessary with younger youth and developmentally impaired folk.
2. the harvest facilitator - large group - getting the feedback - we usually visually record the harvest - so there is a need to slow down the feedback and distribute where it comes from and merge similar ideas
Laurie and I work together in a harvest facilitator/ Graphic recording role, and we use the cafes [most often] as processes within a larger planning or public input project. We find the consensus of understanding is outstanding and it often leads to consensus of action.
