What does it take to be fearless?
We regularly hear stories of people who have saved planeloads of passengers, rescued victims of political atrocities, left abusive relationships with only the clothes on their back… and we say they are fearless. For us mere mortals, there are many situations far less traumatic that can trigger fear, so what does it take – and what does it mean – to be fearless?
1. Are there stories of fearlessness in your family – perhaps as immigrants, veterans, slaves, or as a result of economic hardship or persecution? Can fearlessness be ‘inherited’? What are the characteristics of fearlessness?
2. How do we typically handle fear? Can having a relationship with fear cause it to disappear? Can we feel afraid and be fearless at the same time, ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’? What’s the risk? What’s the pay-off?
3. Are we brave enough to recognize when we’re called upon to be fearless in our own lives or in our society? Can we walk out of work, careers, relationships, or political ideas that limit and disrespect us in order to “walk on” to places where we can make a real contribution, play to our strengths, and achieve our potential?
Please contact me if you would like to attend, as spaces are limited.
