World Café (WC) – is a technology for organizing discussions in small groups in an informal setting. It is an innovative, yet very simple method for convening conversations on issues that truly concern the participants. The conversations of the different groups or connected and complemented thanks to the movement of people between tables. Cross-pollination of ideas allows for new perspectives about questions that matter deeply to participants, their lives, their work and community. As a process, WC awakens the collective wisdom and makes visible the collective wisdom of the group and at the same time engages the people into collective and effective action to achieve shared goals.
WC as a technology has been in existence since 1995, however, only in the past few years have we seen it being used widely in Russia, in particular after a learning event organized by Intertraining in 2007. For more information on this approach are available here.
Workshop topic and target audience?
This training will focus on how to use this method in different situations, how to prepare questions that truly matter for discussions, how to create the conditions for productive conversations, and make possible for the group's wisdom to come alive. Also, the workshop will touch on how to combine WC with other methods like Open Space Technology, Dynamic Facilitation, and Appreciative Inquiry.
This training is for facilitators who already use this approach in their work to deepen their understanding of WC principles and to improve their understanding of the method for their work. It will also be useful for those who wish to become acquainted with this method. However, we recommend that participants take time to study the materials on WC beforehand.
This will be the first workshop that Ulric Rudebeck (Sweden) will be conducting for trainers and facilitators during his Russia visit. You can learn about his second workshop- on graphic facilitation and visualization- here.
The workshop will be led in English with consecutive interpreting into Russian.
