Governmental staff using World Cafes?

I am an elected city council member in Brighton, MI. Like all municipalities we are looking at reduced revenue. Employee morale is low as they are anticipating layoffs although that is not council's or managements position. I have suggested to our city manager that we do a World Cafe for employees, management and council members to mine the knowledge of the employees to see how we can continue offering services to the taxpayers without layoffs. In other words adding efficiency and cost savings to our organization. Much has been done in this regard already, mostly at the expense of the employees benefits. I am thinking who better to tell us how to do this but the employees who are working in the field every day.

Our city manager is wondering if there have been any municipal or governmental World Cafes in and around Michigan done already? Does anyone know of any?

I don't have much timeto answer your question in good detail, but a good start might be this report- also on this site. And dig out the Storynet over here too!

Thanks Ria. That was my story. I hosted a World Cafe for the community but not for our city employees, managers and elected body. I also looked at the other postings under government and community. I will check out Storynet.

Hi Claudia, sorry! I'm European and American cities don't speak to me, they don't stick into my brain!

I'm wondering if you know the Art of Hosting network, their emaillist would be perfect for this kind of question. There is also a similar online Ning space where you could browse the conversations, maybe even in the video's.
