The World Cafe Community

Hosting Conversations about Questions that Matter

Dear Friends,

UNDP is hosting a conference on improving social accountability in the Arab Region in Cairo in two weeks time and they are considering to host a world cafe session. The conference organiser is thrilled by the idea but reluctant to give it a go ahead as she is afraid of an "unmanageble chaos" especially when moving 200 people to new tables between sessions. My questions:

1. Does anyone have a (link to) a video of a large group world cafe session (100 people or more)?

2. Any ideas how we can streamline the flow of people between the sessions moving from one table to another?

Thanks in advance for your feedback,

Hi Paul.

I´ve hosted 2 World Café for more than 100 people. One was por the Jew Community in Venezuela, the other one took place 10 day ago in Bogotá for more than 100 officers from de Urban Developement Institute. I don´t have any videos available, but, if you send me an e-mail to [email protected] y could send you some other photos.

The challange for those big World Cafés is rather logistic, and of course, facilitating... but I have had no problem hosting them, they are great opportunities to "live and feel" the magic of this methodology.

Dear Luisa,

Thanks for your fast and positive reply. I know how powerful the world cafe is but it is difficult to tell othes until they participate in one. Especially conference managers arereluctant as they don't like to be out of control. Anyhow, I would love to receive some additional photos as your world cafe looks very well organised, which might help to convince the conference organiser. Please send them to: [email protected]

Thanks for your assistance,
