The World Cafe Community

Hosting Conversations about Questions that Matter

There are people gathering here in the World Cafe community from literally all over the world, and it is so exciting!!! I really want to meet everyone, and I know I'm not alone. Would you please tell us a little about yourself here, just as an introduction, so we can start to learn about each other? Where do you live? How did you learn about the World Cafe? What are your interests and passions?

NOTE: The convention on this part of the site is that the responses are in chronological order, so you have to click forward to the last page to see the latest introduction.

Hi Juanita and all

This is Tarit Datta Gupta nascent born member of The World Café Community getting myself gradually involved with sharing my ideas with The World Café Community. In fact, very recently I learnt about The World Café Community from my friend Simone Poutnik and with the simple intention of learning from the prominent development practitioners around the globe I requested and I am very much glad to be awarded with the membership from The World Café Community. My friend Benjamin has already extended his helping hand from the very beginning in introducing The World Café Community to me, and introducing me to World Café Community.

About me, from Bangladesh, South Asia and not at all known in my own country I have my first post graduation in Chemistry in 1974 from the University of Dhaka followed by my second post graduation in Development Study in 2007 from North South University. I began my professional career in 1975, continued with different disciplines and it followed like business cycle. At present, I am working as Development Specialist (Independent). My interested areas are: thematic issues, knowledge management, organizational development, governance and policy analysis, political economy and of course others. In my profession I always prefer qualitative analysis instead of completely banking on quantitative analysis; in the former I use mostly observation technique while using Appreciative Inquiry (AI) method through unstructured discussion using open-ended checklists. I believe in innovations, perhaps this is embedded covering the total area in my frame of mind for which I always look beyond what is presently happening. Presently, I am providing voluntary services participating in the online discussion organized by bytesforall readers forum on the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICTs) on different topics related to Digital Bangladesh of the present Bangladesh Government.

However, let me come back to my couple of hours’ experiences with The World Café Community. It is interesting, amazing, and wonderful in very brief I am to say. Meanwhile I have joined seven different groups of The World Café Community. I am also very happy to see Mario Gastaldi and Natalie as my friends. I have already talked about my friend Benjamin who was very much cooperative from the very beginning. Though my friend Simone is yet to be listed in friend list but I also know that she is very busy at this point of time. I have the pleasure that today morning I have entered into conversation with Dr. Miller on Appreciative Inquiry which was useful for me to learn Miller’s perception which is very close to my understanding. Last night I have certain fruitful communications with Ulrich about 2nd European Salon – Dialogue and leadership for a new face of community (I will come to this later). But, why I am telling all these things is that my instinct from last couple of hours’ experiences tells that The World Café Community is a very conducive place for the developmental practitioners who also work as both consumers and suppliers of knowledge to the community. I am eagerly awaiting and would also be eagerly awaiting my direct participation (face to face) in the businesses of The World Café Community.

Now please allow me to let you know that the reasons I have entered into conversation and story telling, well at this moment with a request from Ulrich to talk about ‘Fusion Styles’ in organization development 2nd European Salon – Dialogue and leadership for a new face of community which I would like to discuss in this section tomorrow.

Thanking you all, and with very best of regards

Sincerely and honestly yours

tarit

Hello! Just joined today. I've started reading World Cafe and am very intrigued with the idea. I can see so many applications, and my mind is just churning. I live in Kansas and work for an ag advocacy group. I'm active in my community and am working towards my master's degree in Alternative Dispute Resolution. Looking forward to learning more about the process as I read the book and connect.
