The World Cafe Community

Hosting Conversations about Questions that Matter

There are people gathering here in the World Cafe community from literally all over the world, and it is so exciting!!! I really want to meet everyone, and I know I'm not alone. Would you please tell us a little about yourself here, just as an introduction, so we can start to learn about each other? Where do you live? How did you learn about the World Cafe? What are your interests and passions?

Thank you!

I live in the Inland Empire in San Bernardino just east of Los Angeles. I am a trainer with over 30 years experience in IT and Organizational Development. I currently teach Communications, Leadership, and Teambuilding courses for a local University Extension program. I work with a national mentoring program and I will be concluding a year of service as an AmeriCorps member. I have assisted community and faith-based organizations with strategic planning and capacity-building. I believe in the ability of people to reach their potential and achieve their dreams and I believe that communities like the World Cafe can help in that process in many different ways. I first encountered the cafe at a planning seminar for nonprofits about three years ago and I am excited to have this opportunity. I am looking foirward to learning from each of the people in this community and I hope I can make some contributions that help others as well.

Hi Amy,
I am a 58-year-old woman living in Issy les Moulineaux on the southern edge of Paris, France. I'm an American citizen but have lived outside the US for many many years now. Three sons (22-19-17), 0 daughters, 1 ex-husband, 1 quilting companion who is a cat. Some other landmarks: I'm a pediatrician, my middle son is autistic, I'm close to a French research group working on what's best for families of patients in ICUs (patients who are too sick to speak for themselves)- a truly fascinating topic (useful too!) being tackled by an amazingly committed and smart group of people. I heard about The World Cafe through a newsletter I receive from Dr Emmett Miller (do you know his work? - his CDs are just plain fabulously healing and invigorating - recommended for all!).
Interests and passions? I am passionate about each human being making personal choices freely. That passion starts within me of course but extends in many directions (sometimes the block is within, but sometimes it lies in economic hardship or social straitjackets). From what I understand, TWC promotes personal thinking rooted in inner values that are free (or try to be!) from outside models. Which is why I would like to try to contribute. I also love nature so so much (and live in an urban environment...).

Hi Juanita,

I sent him a comment on his page. His work is truly a wellspring of change and joy. I think all of us, even when we are feeling really good, can benefit from his ideas and CDs: what could be more beautiful than the Rainbow Butterfly or Inner Child?
Great job with TWC, Juanita - I'm still feeling my way around and trying to figure it out but can already feel the energy of ideas bubbling in there!
Take care,
Antoinette

Hello, I'm Martine Vanremoortele from Antwerp, Belgium.
I'm a crew member of new shoes today. www.newshoestoday.com

New shoes today is a growing number of soulmates in business who give support to people and organisations on their road to creation, innovation and change. Together with clients we take on 21st century challenges. Our values: open - drive - unity - fun - care - today.

I'm working in the field of coaching ( creativity coaching, meaning coaching), facilitation (creative sessions) and hosting.

I'm fascinated by curiosity, wonder and the power of questions.
Some time ago I developed a 'game' - meandering meaningful conversations, which is based on the archetype of the labyrinth and powerful questions around creation.

I hope to contribute to this growing community.

Hi Martine,
Welcome!! I loved your website---very fun, very creative. And, did you see the conversation on Questions by Uric Soeder here on this on-line community? It would be great if you could jump into that conversation or create one yourself. And, I'd love to see your game as well...

We also have a very close colleague and friend in Belgium-- Ria Baeke. You can also find her as a member of this community so you can begin communicating.

Warmest regards,
Juanita Brown

Juanita,
thanks for the welcome.
Yes, I met Ria Baeck, during an Art of Hosting event. And I think I will meet her more in the future.

Although the game is a prototype, I played it different times with a group of people. And I got good feedback. Later this year I would like to develop it further, better design, more sustainable materials,...

I will look at the conversation about questions. Thanks for telling me about it.

Kind regards
Martine

Hi Folks:

Michael Picucci here from NYC. I'm a psychologist, psychotherapist, author, researcher and all around consciousness enthusiast. I was introduced to the Wold Cafe movement through Otto Scharmer (and his Presencing & Theory U work) and through the Institute of Noetic Sciences. From these experiences I evolved some of my group work from a Wisdom Circle format to the World Cafe milieu blended w/Presencing and my own mattrix of Focalizing, a synergy of Otto's work, Eugene Gendlin's Focusing, Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing, Wave Work, Healing Imageryand my own experiences.

More on me @ www.michaelpicucci.net

Best to all in letting the World Cafe continue to blossom!

Hi Michael,
Welcome!! I love the combo of things you're integrating and would love it if you could share more with the larger community (and me!) what you are learning! We also have other friends who are
combining World Cafe and Presencing....so I'm sure they'd love to be a part of the conversation too.
One is Greg Guliano (I imagine he's on here already...but if you can't find him in the members--then e-mail me: [email protected] and I can send you his address.

Warmly,
Juanita

Hello, all --

My name is Tara. I'm from Columbus, Ohio (USA). I am the Language Institute Coordinator at Columbus State Community College. The largest part of my job is working with refugee and immigrant students (from 114 countries over the past couple of years!). We have over 1200 students through the noncredit Basic ESL program each year, and it's been so exciting to learn about them and to help them move forward in their lives here.

I found out about the World Café through the Coordinator of our Diversity & Study Abroad Programs. She spearheaded the initiative to start a Global Café on campus. We've had three of them now, and the participants (so far!) have been the students in the Basic English (ESL) program I coordinate. It has been so very exciting to watch the process as the students understand that we have invited them there because their contributions are truly important. There have been some truly magical moments. I'm looking forward to the next one!
