The World Cafe Community

Hosting Conversations about Questions that Matter

I just want to express my gratitude for the developer of the World Cafer online community and I'm very glad to have joined this site. This is the kind of site that I invision when I think of interacting with people from all over the world via the internet. I have been very dissappointed with community sites that start off as fun networking sites and end up with people who are only interested in spreading unwanted pornography across the site. I recently had this happen to me on Facebook..Someone sent a spamed link that appeared to have come from someone I know and trust. When I clicked the link it took me to a false page that stated that I needed to upgrade my flashplayer viewer. In reality, once I clicked the link to upgrade my viewer, I was unknowinly giving permission to the maleware to download to my computer..I have spent most of today trying to get rid of this trojen maleware along with its virus...( forgive me if I am not stating this correctly) Anyway I thought facebook was a site that I could trust and I have found it to be compromised. But I feel very good about the world cafe and I think I will spend more time here in this mature community.
I trust the that others feels the same as I do??

Thanks for your kind words, Alane.

Because this community is "open" I'm sure we we will receive our share of unwanted "members" and spam, but I promise you I will do my best to keep up with it.

One of the things that really sets us apart from something like FaceBook is that we have a common interest in the World Cafe and are interested in meeting others who share our interest/work/passion, and want to learn from their experiences of using this powerful social technology. The orientation here is also on deep and meaningful conversation, which is not always the case in other online "communities". As a loosely connected international network, I think we're still working with the idea of "community" and what it might mean to us in these circumstances, but I think we have a shared basis here that will help us grow into something quite special with time and attention.
Alane Quien -- I totally agree which is why I keep my FB private and only invite real friends. Sorry this happened to you but we all learn. I also agree with your take on this site. It's perfect for those of us who are real global citizens. Happy Labor Day!
