I was wondering whether it would be useful for us Canadians ( a state of mind rather than a physical location) to hold a virtual world cafe to define a purpose for the group. Not that we are without purpose , but to to perhaps expand what the possibilities are.
Hi Mel
I think that is a very good idea. For my part i am curious and interested to know more about my fellow canadians and their experience in experimenting with these new social tools of dialogue practice
It would seem to me that a virtual cafe would not necessarily need to be in real time - although that would be fun....
This site is in its self a virtual cafe conversation on multiple levels
Our challenge with our visual practice is to have charts seen by all - and part of that magic is to see it form in front of your eyes
So if none of us has done this then maybe we should work this conversation toward how it could be done?
Looks like there is some interest in doing this. I do not have experience in virtual world cafes but I think there would be fun and learning in trying one. I agree with Bob that if we decide to have a crack at it, this conversation should turn towards how it could be done. I believe it would be very exciting if we could incorporate visuals somehow.
If we are going to follow the world cafe process, I gather we would through this conversation be setting the context for the cafe- deciding on the purpose (defining a purpose for this group?) , the participants ( the Canadian Group or wider..??), and the parameters which will enable our conversation.
We have a small group now. It seems to me that we could set up virtual "coffee table" spaces for groups of 4 to meet for rounds of the cafe. Perhaps even use this site, using the conversations spaces like this one. Those table groups might decide to use Skype or other chat spaces to hold real time cafes.
I gather a cafe, if it used posts like this, could be held over days, weeks or months. Is there any reason to limit the time that the cafe conversation can evolve?
I think Mel with the speed at which things are developing we are better to start with a virual conversation group like this one to discuss process then experiment when we have aquired critical mass
I think we should pose a question
I'm thinkin' "What are the Challenges and Opportunities associated with running an on-line cafe?"
If you appreciate the World Café and what this community space makes possible, please make your contribution - large or small - to the World Café Community Foundation now.
