The learning program in Second Life last Friday was wonderful - there was a great group of people attending and I wish you more of you could have been there to experience it - at least the World Cafe which was very lively and a lot of fun. I wrote a story about it to share some of my learning, and invite you to have a look. I'd love to hear your thoughts, either there, or here, and hope it will stimulate us to do more in this group.

I'm also excited and looking forward to what we will explore together as a whole community in the series of online World Cafes starting next month on the 24th. Hope to see you all there! If you are interested in co-hosting one of them contact myself or Sabine Soeder, who is co-designing these Community Cafes and will be hosting the first one.

Welcome Kazuaki!

Quick announcement - the Learning Program in Second Life has been postponed to the 19th - same time, same place. :-) If you are already active in Second Life and would like to be part of the World Cafe that will be the basis for this session, send me an email and let me know (participation in the World Cafe session will be free).

Hello friends in the World Cafe Online group!

There are two World Cafe events coming up in Second Life in the next few weeks that I want to let you know about - one is a World Cafe conversation after an interview of Biomimicry writer Janine Benyus, which is free, and the other is an all-day Learning Program about how to host World Cafes in virtual environments.

The Learning Program is a pre-conference event in collaboration with the Including the Excluded online conference, and there will be a charge of $100 to attend (25% of which will go directly to the World Cafe Community Foundation).

I'll be using MaestroConference for audio in both cases.

I want to welcome anyone who is comfortable in Second Life to come play - it's a great opportunity to experience a virtual World Cafe.

If you'd like to work with me on either one (I could use help with the MaestroConference control panel, and tech support in Second Life - with MaestroConference we no longer need Table Hosts as a tech role, but it's still helpful to have another person there), let's talk.

We'll be hosting more World Cafe events using MaestroConference on its own in the next few months, so if you are not comfortable in Second Life, don't worry - there will be more chances to explore together.

I'm hosting a workshop in SecondLife this coming February with PublicDecisions as part of a week long conference they're producing on using virtual worlds for stakeholder engagement.

My workshop is called "How to Host World Cafes in Second Life" and I'll post the information here and in the Events calendar for anyone who'd like to participate.

If you are already experienced in Second Life and would like to be part of the workshop by serving as a Table Host (a necessary part of a Second Life World Cafe), let me know: amy at theworldcafe dot com

Hello my friends!

I want to welcome all the new people who've joined this group lately, and invite you to share your specific interests and wishes for this group in the Introductions thread here.

There is a lot happening in this sphere of online World Cafes lately, and I'd love your thinking and participation...

Welcome, Gloria!

It would be great when new people join if they could share a bit about their experience and/or interest in online World Cafes - I'd love to know more about who's here ...

Hi Alane,

Yes, it's not really a social networking site as much as a Community of practice for World Cafe and friends. You fit right in! :-) I guess you didn't get my notes to you, asking some questions in response to the group you proposed... If you look in your message box you should be able to see them. Warmly, Amy

Ok I just figured out what is going on in the world cafe! LOL. Ok ,this is so very different that most other social networking sites. I started what I thought was a group that got rejected. So I think I'm up to speed on the format and style now...... smile : )

You may want to visit Amy's post Extending Meaningful Conversation: Virtual World Cafes to see two different online cafe approaches. I brought to the front of the conversations.
