The World Cafe Community

Hosting Conversations about Questions that Matter

There are people gathering here in the World Cafe community from literally all over the world, and it is so exciting!!! I really want to meet everyone, and I know I'm not alone. Would you please tell us a little about yourself here, just as an introduction, so we can start to learn about each other? Where do you live? How did you learn about the World Cafe? What are your interests and passions?

NOTE: The convention on this part of the site is that the responses are in chronological order, so you have to click forward to the last page to see the latest introduction.

Just joined yesterday and enjoyed the online dialogue. Actually I am a beginner in the world cafe community. In the last years I have made my living with doing research about future issues – in the dynamic surroundings of Berlin, Germany. This professional activities are much around emerging technologies, may it be the amazing social technologies enabling the social web or in the corporate contexts.

Since a while I want to change this and be more a part of the necessary transformations ahead. For instance I started to share my skills in the context of NGO/NPOs. See a presentation here (German): http://socialforesight.wordpress.com/2010/11/26/strategische-trendb.... Now I am preparing to initiate a network about social foresight – the social foresight network: The blog http://socialforesight.net has been started and will be part of it, I am thinking about a community platform and like the structure here on theworldcafecommunity.org.

PS: Showing last responses first (inverse chronological) would be encouriging to post something, maybe this could be switched?

Hi Will!

Welcome to this online community, and thank you for your suggestion... (we have been struggling with this for a while - unfortunately we can't change the order of any one individual thread independently - a change would effect the comment order on the entire site...)

I'm so glad you have joined us from the Community for the 21st Century conversation... may I ask how you heard about the event?

I'm looking forward to more conversation!

Warmly,

Amy

Hi Amy!

Nice to join people, who see the challenges of the 21st century and act for solutions. I think that I curiously followed the link in a status message on Facebook - of Frauke Godat, who is very connected to several movements/networks. Not 100% sure. Facebook is an ambivalent platform, since there is too much power over our "social air space" in a central structure ... but the unprecedented social connectivity and "discovery logic" of Facebook enables things like this, finding this community without searching.

Thank you for your work!

Best,

Willi

Hi I am very interested in learning more about World Cafe and join this Global movement.

I am a theatre artist, dramaturge, educational facilitator and multi - disciplinary Performing Artist active in community development and University teaching in Brazil. Co - Director of Constellation Performance Ensemble ( artists from Brazil, Uruguai, the US and Africa) and I am very interested in the connection between art, social change, multiculturalism and spirituality. My special interests are creating performing arts training practices that are both ethical and sustainable, and, facilitating conversations in international organizations that can nurture creativity, innovation social justice and cultural understanding. My particular strengths are in the areas of performance skills, voice and movement, and exploring the relationship between energy and creativity, physicality and spirituality. Mentor of "Cultural Diversity Celebration - Honoring People and Cultures through art " several places in Brazil and at the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. In 2009 and 2010 I organized the International Day of Peace Celebrations being part of the official Calendar of Bento Goncalves ( where I live) . Spent some time living in the Bay Area in California.

Wow Nadia!

What a wonderful set of skills and interests you have... I know you will be an asset to the community, and hopefully there will be some great connections for you here, in relation to both Brazil and your interest in the arts.

Welcome!

I am currently a PhD student in the Communication Dept. at USF. My focus is in performance studies, but I also have deep interests in rhetoric and postcolonial/subaltern theory.

My background is traditional theater, which is the area my MFA is in. I run a theater company, Jobsite Theater, that is the resident company at the Straz Center here in Tampa. We focus on edgier fare, more alternative work and work of a political/social nature.

My hope is to continue to fuse these two areas. Right now as far as school goes i am most interested in comic performance as a site of resistance and change.

Hi, I'm totally new at this. I'm just graduating in social work and really interested in pursuing a career in community. I have been doing a placement with a wonderful professor on food security, more particularly on school gardens and how they can benefit the whole community. I love what I am doing and have met so many wonderful people and hope I have gotton some schools to begin their gardens. Working with my own children in our backyard is like heaven for me to see their faces when we harvest new vegetables or grow flowers and hoe that passion spreads to other children in their schools.

I live in Northern Ontario, on the shore of beautiful lake superior. Such a awe-inspiring place is wild and truly inspirational. Communities are very spread out and gardening and farming are challenging but rewarding lives.

Hi,

I heard about the World Cafe from a friend whos's been trained in "the Art of Hosting" (open space tehcnology).

It seems to me to be both a generous and effective way of dealing with difficult issues and complex problems. I wish I could experience a group session one day and to be trained, too.

I am a senior HR consultant, trainer and coach. I am running my own business, ACCORDINA.
I live in Paris, France. I speak French and German, too ( I graduated in german language and civilisation).

I play piano, I sing : classical, jazz music, "chanson française" are my favorites. I've been trained as a comedian.

I love literature, from all over the world. I go to the movies at least once a week.

I am the mother of a 20 year old son, who is still studying.

I am passionate about : continuing (whole life) education, dealing-living through change, women's leadership, and promoting entrepreneurship.

I am looking for new friends who share the same interests for the same topics....

I am looking forward to hear from you...
Claudine

Hello Everyone, I live not far from Brisbane in Australia and work in a small not for profit organisation that support women and children traumatised by domestic and family violence. I have from a very young age looked for community and seek to create and be a part of sustainable communitites. I love how the concept and feeling of community is so diverse and keeps growing as we are brought closer to each other on-line. I am very excited to join the world cafe community. I heard about the World Cafe Community at a Hosting Meaningful Conversations training with Toke Moeller and Monika Nissen. I really loved what I experienced during the workshops and am putting my hand up to be an apprentice host. I look forward to meeting you all. Thank you!

HI Gabrielle,

We have other dear friends and Cafe stewards in Australia...primarily in Melbourne....is that far from you? Contact Jenni Dunn at Jenni Dunn <[email protected]>....and I know she'll be happy to talk with you and make other connections.

Warmest regards,

Juanita

I'm really convinced that ideas sharing is the baseline of innovation - I'm fascinated by the power or group thinking and I like to animate this kind of brainstorming.

However, I feel over-flooded by the quantity & quality of ideas that popped up during the world cafe session that I oarganized in the past weeks - I'm sure that it will take hours of analysis, and perhaps fustration of attendees because only a few ideas will be exploited in the near future.

This is why I joined your community, because I perhaps went too fast and I need some help-tips for my next World cafe,
