Educators and Parents/Guardians: Self-Harm Awareness, Suicide Prevention

Children require medical and physical examinations to allowed to attend most school systems; these examinations assess only physical well-being with little to no attention to mental health needs. There seems to be little prevention in the United States. Why wait until we are fighting suicidal ideation when we can intervene proactively?See More

Self Harm Awarenss for Adolescents

Hello ! I became a member of the World Café as part of my MA in Critical and Creative Thinking and a project that I had to create for my Dialogue Processes course. This course led me to the Circle of Seven, in which Anne Dosher is a prominent figure. Searching Anne led me here. I am now in the dire need of creating awareness about self-harm among adolescents. This is my Synthesis project for my MA in Critical and Creative Thinking at UMass Boston. My presentation is to be in May 2015.I am a…See More

Please indicate your World Café experience (ONLY IF YOU HAVE ACTUAL WORLD CAFE EXPERIENCE) in one or more of the following roles:
I'm New to the World Cafe
If you are new to the World Cafe, would you please share how you heard about this community?
I discovered this site as part of research I am doing on Dr. Anne Dosher and The Circle of Seven.
What field is the primary focus of your World Café work (ONLY CHECK AREAS WHERE YOU ARE ALREADY ACTIVELY USING WORLD CAFE PLEASE)?
Education, Online
What knowledge, skills or resources would you like to contribute to the World Café community to help it grow and flourish?
It seems as though I will be learning more than I have to offer, but..I am a student in The Critical and Creative Thinking program at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. This is not they common Master Degree Program and I think we will see more of its like in the future. I am a dental hygienist with 21 years of experience and am employed at the Veteran's Administration. Any dental questions?
What would you most like to receive from this community?
I am hoping to learn more about topics that I can further study and present as part of my education. I am presently particularly interested in Dr. Anne Dosher and The Circle of Seven. One of my present courses is on Dialogue Processes and the potential of dialogue to impact its participants with shared knowledge which is not inhibited by rigid frames of mind and bias'. This forum seems to have an impressive collective group of thinkers.

Welcome, Kerri!

How wonderful that you have joined us - especially since, as David says, Anne is our dearly held "guardian of the spirit, or "soul" of the World Café" - a wise elder who has given us and this entire community guidance and support from the very beginning.

Your Master's program sounds amazing... how wonderful that you are able to immerse yourself in it. I think you'll find there are a lot of "kindred spirits" here to talk with about things you are interested in. Please reach out and start conversations with people and/or respond to ones that are in play - whether they are "old" or "new". (It's my experience that time isn't really as important in this environment as it is "face to face". :-)

There are some ideas for how to get started in the "Orientation" section of the site - please let me know if you have questions or need help.

Warmly,

Amy

Hi Kerri, welcome to the World Cafe online community of learning and practice! I am particularly excited to see you here because Anne Dosher is my "unofficially adopted" older sister. she is also widely known as the guardian of the soul of the World Cafe! she's written the wonderful epilogue to our book: The World Cafe… Shaping Our Futures Through Conversations that Matter.

Be well,

David Isaacs
